The Hot List: What Digital Cameras Are Other Readers Buying?

You’ve got your mind nearly made up on a new camera, but curious what other enthusiasts are buying? Well, I’m noticing quite a number of distinct trends, judging by traffic into the site and purchases made through the site. First, Canon has a winner on their hands with the PowerShot S90, at least when it comes to sales. It looks like consumers are indeed enticed when manufacturers make direct appeals to their interest, which the S90 does with a fast lens and improved ISO performance. Second, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 continues to be a reader favorite, essentially a swiss-army knife compact camera that does it all, and does it well. What about DSLR cameras you ask? Well, it isn’t quite a DSLR, but the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 has been the biggest seller, but availability can still be tricky. Following that is one of our favorite recommendations, the Nikon D90, and then the Canon EOS 7D, though I suspect its numbers will grow substantially over the next month, with what I’ll predict will be many good reviews. Also I get the feeling that there’s a number of EOS 40D owners, maybe even EOS 30D owners, who opted to sit out the 50D, but “give in” to the EOS 7D. We’ll see.
