The Case for (and against) the Sony A900

Is the Alpha system from Sony a viable alternative for the professional photographer? I’m inclined to answer yes, thanks to the Sony A900. Making the case for the alpha system and specifically the A900, David Kilpatrick pens an article for the British Journal of Photography discussing the pros and cons. Now, Kilpatrick is absolutely a fan of the Sony A900, but there are some cons to A900, one specifically that I hadn’t really thought about:

But if I depended on income from stock photography I would not use it. Why? Getty controls the most profitable and active online stock library sites – and, like many other libraries, it erects artificial barriers to entry. One of these is their its of approved cameras, and not a single Sony appears on it. You can shoot with a Canon 40D, which cannot approach the quality of an A900, yet it remains an unacceptable camera for Getty contracts.

This seems insanely silly to me, and Sony should be lobbying hard for adding the A900, heck the A700 even to the acceptable list.

Anyway, the pros and cons of the Sony Alpha system via an expert here.
