Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 DiII VC Lens Review: 15x Zoom, $600

Adorama reviews the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 DiII VC lens, a 15x zoom lens for less than $600. The price point and range might be enough for some folks but Adorama (who have zero interest in selling this, I’m sure) points out that the Tamron 18-270 happens to be a pretty good lens:

in terms of sheer range, and real-world performance, the remarkable 15X Tamron 18-270mm VC MACRO is not only the world’s longest-range interchangeable zoom lens for DSLRs, it’s also one of the best.

You’ll get big time range with this lens, but you won’t have the fastest AF, and the Tamron tops out f/6.3 at the long end. If you can live with that, then you’ve found your ultimate walk around lens.

Get the lens here at Amazon (currently $599) or at B and H Photo Video

  1. These new 15x and 20x zooms are BS, I want a 50X zoom, otherwise I don’t feel alive.

  2. any distortion on that imaginary 50x lens?

  3. Nope. At least as long as it stays imaginary, it is pitch-perfect like a Summicron.

  4. Oh fine then, no distortion…I’ll have one too, if it means feeling alive.

  5. Oh, you have no idea.

Of course that’ll only last until they make a 60x zoom.

  6. just a failure of imagination that it hasn’t been made I take it.

  7. Well, *I* can imagine it, and surely those camera guys should do better!

    BTW, it’s a F:1.2 lens and weighs 150 grams. And costs $200.
