Canon is claiming a noticeable improvement in ISO noise management due to the DIGIC IV processing, despite the big increase in megapixels. In fact, judging by the press release they seem to be touting noise management:

Just to update that previous post on the Canon 50D. I contacted the source mentioned, and while he can’t give specifics on the 50D, he does mention:
