Surge in Sales for Compact Interchangeable Lens Cameras

According to a report at the Amateur Photographer, sales in the UK of compact of compact interchangeable lens cameras like the Panasonic GH1 and smaller varieties like the Olympus PEN cameras and the Panasonic GF1, have advanced forward nearly 10%.

Volume sales of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras reached 3,180 – a 9.3% rise on figures for February.

This generated £1,647,212 in sales revenue.

he total number of interchangeable lens cameras sold in March – including DSLRs – fell 8.7% in the UK compared with the same month last year.

Again this is all just more evidence, that versatility and small form factors is an idea that strongly appeals to photographers, and hints at the inevitability that other manufacturers will soon be entering the fray (ahem, Nikon and Canon).
