Subject Matter
Musings on Photography has a nice post on subject matter, the ever confounding “what do I shoot”? The answer for me is simply shoot everything, but practicing it is a bit more difficult. To help, just remind yourself that most of the world can look very interesting when it is tightly confined in a box, and printed on sheet of paper. A great photo is right next to you, or above you, or by your left foot. From Musings on Photography:
And somehow, we look at Ed Weston’s Pepper #30, and we’re so impressed by this photograph of a pepper in a tin funnel that we manage to never quite notice that Weston was photographing his lunch because he didn’t want to leave the studio for fear that he’d miss a paying customer.
