Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 Review at Imaging Resource
A camera that easily could have been added to our “5 Unconventional Compact Cameras” post earlier this week, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 looks like a contemporary compact camera, but inside it features several different and useful shooting modes. Handheld Twilight mode eliminates camera shake and image noise by combining 6 rapid fire captures into one image, averaging all the best results along the way. Anti-Motion Blur mode again takes 6 quick images, then combines them, continually pushing the sharpest sections of each photo forward (yes, magically). Finally there’s the Sweep Panorama, familiar to HX1 users, which allows the user to press the shutter and sweep with the camera. The camera then combines the captures from the sweep into one panorama. It all sounds very cool, and in a review at Imaging Resource, they work well enough for the camera to earn a “Dave’s Pick”, though with caveats given for some handling issues:
While we’re talking about physical inconveniences, I also found the battery door a major headache. It kept opening up. Not unprompted, no, but whenever I lifted the Sony WX1 out of a pocket or even a camera bag. The problem is that the wrist strap eyelet is at the same end as the cover so your fingers naturally grab the cover and lift. But any resistance from the body and that opens the door, which slides in that direction to open.

By the way, the WX1 also shoots 720p HD video. Definitely an interesting little compact. You can grab the review here.
