Focused only on photography, and minus some of the bells and whistles of it’s competitors (wink Canon 5D Mark II and that whole “live view” thing), the Sony A900 digital SLR is slowly building up a nice resume of reviews. While all business, the A900 has a number of drool worth feautures, like built in image stabilization good for 4 stops, an amazing viewfinder, oh, and a certain monster sized full frame 24 megapixel sensor. In the latest review of the A900 at Photo Review they discuss as a caveat the A900’s serious nature:
However, it’s important for potential buyers to note that this is a photographer’s camera and, as such, it is wasted on anyone who isn’t prepared to explore (and utilise) the many controls and functions it offers. Large, heavy and solidly built, it sits comfortably in the hands and serious photographers will find it a pleasure to use. Point-and-shooters and gadget-freaks who want gimmicks that do little to enhance the ability to capture still images should look elsewhere.
There’s also some discussion of some noise management issues with the A900, the 24 megapixels do come at a cost when compared to a camera like the D3, or even the Canon 5D Mark II by the looks of things. Just something to consider for potential purchasers of the A900. Every camera has its place, and the A900 probably feels most at home in a well lit studio where its incredible resolution can be best be put to use, with no compromises.
To get your hands on a Sony A900, head on over to Amazon for $2999 , or order from B and H for $2999.95.
