Sigma DP2: That’s One Sharp Lens

I continue to enjoy life with the Sigma DP2. Ok, it isn’t a perfect camera, but I love it as an image capture device. Contributing to this, that 41mm (equivalent) lens at f/2.8 wide open, which delivers very sharp photos, that take further sharpening in post quite nicely. But the DP2 also does the out of focus thing very well to, terrific depth of field effects, with such a soft blur. Combined with the Foveon sensor, the detail is delivered so cleanly, I’m still trying to find the right words for the image quality. At times I look at some of the images, and they can look almost “syrup-like” as if they’re under  a pour of resin, they’re “thicker” than other images I’ve encountered. I wish it had closer focusing distances, it doesn’t really do macro so well, and you really, really want to get close with this camera. Of course there are third party solutions to this, and if I were to end up getting a DP2, I’d be looking into that for sure.

I’m still needing to explore low-light with the DP2. I’m hoping to run some obligatory ISO tests this weekend, in addition to just taking more photos. Till then a shot from a rare sunny day this week:
