Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens Review: Excels Wide Open

It’s the point of some controversy, for one reason or another (mostly inconsistant AF), but we keep wondering: is the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens superior to the “name brand” equivalents? The answer of course is yes and no. In a review at SLRGear what’s been reinforced from other reviews is that the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is a bit better wide open than the competition–and that will be no small thing for some photographers. But once you stop down the competition, most of them look to be sharper than the Sigma. Additionally, the Sigma suffers from light falloff at the corners, especially on full frame cameras.

Conclusion: If you need f/1.4 above all else, get the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM.
