Ricoh CX1 Review: Dynamic Range Promises Kept

The Ricoh CX1 digital compact camera was one of the cameras promptly put on my watch list when it was announced going into PMA this year. Promising to boost dynamic range by combining multiple exposures in-camera to make for one photo with proper exposure, Ricoh aimed to address at least one problem ever-present in compact digital cameras. So how did that work out? In a prompt review, the Photgraphy Blog found:

The new Dynamic Range mode works really well, resulting in images that have noticeably more dynamic range that those shot in the Normal mode, and far surpassing most other compact cameras.

Now it looks likes the improvement in dynamic range came at the expense of some color accuracy, but still, unlike the Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR, the CX1 is able to produce full resolution files while noticably improving dynamic range.
