Quick Hits
Christmas is almost here, which will be good news for some, bad for others. If you’re still looking for a present, and need it here tomorrow, then you’ll want to get a order in at B&H Photo pretty early today. Remember–they’re shipping Canon and Nikon digital cameras for free, overnight.
If anybody feels generous, I’ve got on my wishlist the Canon 90mm TSE. I want to use it for some product photography, as its selective focus abilities really helps when photographing objects, and food, etc. It also makes a pretty cool portrait lens, and you can do many, many other creative things with it as well. Just a suggestion.
Now for some Quick Hits around the web:
I reviewed the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod legs right here at Neutralday.com. Love this tripod!
Sony’s Cyber-Shot DSC-WX1 gets (briefly) reviewed at Buy-n-shoot.com. This a slightly sophisticated P&S, that I’m wanting to review myself.
The fascinating Ricoh GXR also gets a (brief) review at Buy-n-shoot.com. Could be a really cool camera if Ricoh continues to release compelling lens/sensor units.
The Canon EOS 7D gets reviewed at www.dcresource.com. I pretty much agree with his conclusions…
Dpinterface.com reviews the Nikon Coolpix S570, which is their mid-range, 12 megapixel point and shoot.
The 12 megapixel, 3.5 inch touchscreen, Nikon Coolpix S70 gets reviewed at www.digitalcamerareview.com. Another camera I’m curious about. Interesting camera design too.
First thoughts on the Sony A550 also at www.digitalcamerareview.com. Their pro-sumer-ish DSLR with the excellent live view.
A lens worth dying for? Perhaps just fainting for? The amazing Nikon 70-200mm VR II gets reviewed by Mr. Ken Rockwell. You want this lens!!!
The Westcott Halo, a very interesting light modifier for strobes and speedlites, gets reviewed at www.terrywhite.com. This thing looks pretty cool to me, and reminds me of the very cool SoftLighter by Photek.
And finally, a real nice post on the virtues of HDR photography by Alexandre Buisse at Luminous Landscape. If you think you hate HDR, perhaps you’ve forgotten how it can be used to simply improve the dynamic range of your photos (with out looking like a bad acid trip).
