Photography News: Nikon D400 Rumors, More…

Rumors were rampant of the imminent arrival of a Nikon D400, a 15 megapixel camera with HD video and ISO up to 6400 (so the rumor goes). The speculation started with a screengrab from Nikon’s Germany site, but from what I gather in their comments, the screengrab is fake. Still this didn’t stop the wild excitement over a potentially new DSLR from one of the big two. The NYT discusses the new Nikon 35mm f/1.8G.

Something to try in your spare time, 4 teens attached an $80 camera (Nikon Coolpix) to a $60 latex balloon. Amazingly they were able to capture images from space, roughly 20 miles up. The image above just one example.

DPR interviews members of the Olympus team on what the future looks like for Olympus. I get that Olympus has to stick with the four/thirds format, but boy they pretend to not be aware of the benefits of the full frame sensor as it pertains to the pro market:

Sure, but I don’t think that you’d argue that any of the full frame cameras that have been released don’t also offer excellent image quality. JK: No, I think that across the board a lot of the cameras out there today – compared to five years ago – are very good and very high quality, but I don’t think you’d argue that those manufacturers’ with APS-C cameras aren’t any good simply because they’re not full frame.

Well yes, a lot of cameras are good, but pros are using full frame (or larger) for a reason.

The NYT on sensor size quoting Lori Grunin from CNET:

Many point-and-shoot cameras shoehorn 12 megapixels onto a tiny sensor, which results in microscopic pixels that create noise and image problems. “There’s no image there,” Ms. Grunin says. “It’s all firmware and magic.”

Lot’s of camera owners will be stunned to learn their photos the result of magic.

It’s the weekend folks, which means backing up, going out for a hike, or working on your photos. By the way, I’ll be getting my officially purchased Canon 17-40mm f/4 sometime next week. I’m so excited.
