Nikon D5000 Review at Imaging Resource: “Very Impressive DSLR” Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 Review at PhotoReview
Photographer Pierre Gonnord
They may not be pretty to look at, but there is a certain beauty in photographer Pierre Gonnord’s sobering portraits. In the more recent work Gonnord seems to take a cue from the old masters, not photographers, but painters. In fact, some of the work looks very much painted, thanks in large part to some very skillful lighting. Take a look and see what you think at Gonnord’s website here.

It is interesting that Mr. Gonnord styles his work after painters. When the camera was invented, fine art painters worried that photography would eclipse their work. That never happened, but almost two hundred years later with digital cameras and PhotoShop, photography’s potential as an innovative art form is greater than ever.
I think it’s interesting the back and forth between the two mediums, with some painters trying to mimic the look of photography, and some photographers trying to mimic painting.
