Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Review at Photo Review: “Editor’s Choice”
The oh so very new Panasonic GF1 nabs an “Editor’s Choice” right out of the starting gate at photoreview.com.au. Now, regular readers will remember that photoreview.com.au nearly always keeps an element of personal opinion out of their reviews, an odd thing to do in a “review” in my opinion, but at least they’re now adding “conclusions”:
It provides many of the benefits of a DSLR: interchangeable lens options, a relatively large sensor, raw file capture and a full suite of user-adjustable controls. All these factors provide reasons for nominating the GF1 as an Editor’s Choice in both the Advanced and Four Thirds System categories.

Given the G series heritage here, I suspect that the GF1 will garner further high marks in reviews to come.

It would be better still with in-body stabilization and a hinged screen, but otherwise this might be the closest yet we’ve come to a “HC-B camera”.
well, you do get the IS in the lenses—and hey you’re already part of this system with the G1!
Apparently no IS in the 20mm lens, the really compact one. And since it’s very sharp, fast, and compactness is the raison d’être for this system, I think that’s a very weak point.
Of course at f/1.7 you’ll be needing IS a bit less, no?
Sure, but two or three stops gained will always be two or three stops gained.
Ok, you win.
… Just as an example, I was just out with an F:1.2 lens with no stabilization, in twilight, evening. If it *had* had stabilization, maybe I could have continued 20 minutes longer.
