Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Review at DPReview
I think it’s all but official that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is the current camera review darling. If you’re going this route, you’ve got a choice between the GF1 and the Olympus E-P1, and though similar, the consensus appears to be that the GF1 has an edge (or two). Again, you know a camera is good when the reviewer buys the camera, and it’s headed that way in the review at DPReview:
Overall though – and I guess you probably already know this – I really loved the GF1, and will find it very hard to return it when this review is finished, meaning that I may have to wipe the dust and cobwebs off my wallet and actually hand over my own hard earned cash for one.
-DPReview
To sum up the review: the GF1 combined with the 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens is photography bliss. Get the very extensive review here.

Excellent photo quality and performance for its class; comfortable, streamlined design; interchangeable lenses.
I just have a few issues:
The DMC-GF1 lacks the EVF of the GH1 and the better video mode, on the other hand GH1 is way bigger and come with more pricier optics.
The Pentax K-x offers a lot for the money and better sensor than even the K7 but is somewhat too basic imho, though do I really want to pay extra for the K7? Also what if Pentax goes belly up?
Canon just announced the 550D, with good video mode and it’s a brand which won’t die. Better than the Pentaxes I guess, but than the GF1?
The GF1 should have had the GH1 sensor and EVF somehow =P
Johan,
interesting concerns, I suppose it boils down to your form factor preference. You can get an EVF for the GF1, though personally I don’t really like them. I don’t see how the K-x is any more basic than the GF1 in terms of its capabilities, but they’re all great cameras–well I don’t know about the 550D, but the rest have all been great for their particular market sectors.
