Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Review at Camera Labs: Another “Glowing” Review
I’m currently quite enamored with the Olympus E-P1, surprisingly so, in fact. First I just can’t stop admiring its good looks, and it really is a blast to use. Second, talk of the E-P1 being slow to focus isn’t entirely accurate, it isn’t slow, more like average, but nothing to stop me from getting most pictures. On the other hand the GF1 garners a good deal of attention, partly on account of its faster focusing. I suspect I’d enjoy either, but now I’m liking the E-P1’s looks.
To the point though, the GF1 has been praised a good deal since its introduction, and the kind words continue at Camera Labs where the GF1 easily wins a “Highly Recommended”:
One of the most interesting things about choosing between the GF1 and E-P1 though is how two cameras which are essentially very similar at their hearts can evoke such different reactions. Photographic enthusiasts and reviewers can’t help but love the concept behind both, but almost everyone will much prefer one model over the other. Maybe it’s the features, more likely it’s the look, but by now anyone interested in a Micro Four Thirds compact will have their favourite.
Personally speaking, the snappier AF, more detailed screen, built-in flash and longer recording times of the GF1 ultimately out-weighed the built-in stabilisation of the E-P1, although we really missed having anti-shake on the 20mm when filming video. And you will want the Panasonic 20mm lens too, regardless of which body you end up going for. It’s small, light and bright and allows either body to realise its true potential as a portable quality camera.

They really liked the GF1, and their comprehensive review can be had here. (Don’t read if you are trying to talk yourself out of buying a GF1!)

I have just bought the GF1 and LOVE IT!
My first test shots can be seen here:

It;s fast to focus and auto-zooms the LCD for a much better Manual focus too!
Thanks to Neutral Day for a little help on Twitter in deciding. The Olympus E-P2 just lost out on price and the fact that it tok olympus 2 cameras to get to where the Lumix is with one!
Rupert,
Oh you’re so lucky! I’d be happy with either the GF1 or the E-P2, but clearly the GF1 has it’s advantages, especially in the all important focusing! Thanks for the link…some nice pics!
