Olympus E-620 Image Sample Gallery
Here’s an early look at some sample images from our upcoming review of the Olympus E-620. These are straight from the camera, excepting minor crops and JPEG conversions. That also means no sharpening and no noise removal, so just a grab bag of representative shots in typical use situations.
You’ll note the first portrait is shot at ISO 1600, again that’s a totally usable ISO setting on this camera. The next three portraits were taken using the E-620’s art filters, I tend to use the pin hole option the most, but as I previously mentioned, using these art filters does require post shot processing in-camera, which means waiting.
Also, you can get a good idea of the type of performance that the 14-42mm kit lens provide. It’s entirely competent, providing sharp pictures that are virtually free of any major chromatic aberration, though at 84mm equivalent length on the long end, some users might be wanting something a little longer (like we did at the zoo). Of course Olympus has some beautiful lenses in various lengths, but a smart consumer on a budget would be incredibly well served with the dual kit lens, which includes the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko lens and the 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED Zuiko lens all for an amazing $799. That covers just about every situation a beginner or first-time DSLR purchaser would encounter, and may end up being all you’d need.
Click images for a larger view, or click “original size” for the full size image. Excepting a few crops, the photos are unprocessed direct from the camera. I’ll have more complete feedback on all aspects of the Olympus E-620, and more images, in my full review soon.
