Sony A900 Better than Nikon D3? Canon EOS 50D Review

Olympus E-520 Review

The Olympus E-520 packs in a 10 megapixel 4/3 sized sensor, with a 2.7 inch LCD, and built in image stabilization all packed into a small body (only outdone by the E-420). Photography Review posts their review of the E-520 today and find its small size and copious features combine to make a camera you really don’t mind carrying everywhere.

When it comes to outdoor photography, where smaller and lighter really count, the E-520 is the first camera I reach for. Because it’s so compact and versatile, I particularly enjoy the E-520 for backcountry mountain bike photos. My regular mountain bike riding camera setup right now is the E-520 with the Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 and the Zuiko Digital ED 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 SWD lenses. With the E-520’s 2x digital crop factor, that gives me easy-to-carry, image-stabilized coverage from 24mm all the way up to 600mm.

Image quality may not be up to par with some of the bigger sensored cameras, but a lot of folks will be willing to make a compromise on IQ for the convenience of the E-520’s small stature. In addition, as Photography Review points out, opting for a E-520 gives you access to the amazing Zuiko lens library. All in all, not a bad deal.

You can grab the Olympus E-520 here at Amazon (with a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Lens for $500) or here at B and H Photo Video.
