Nikon D3x Review: Priced for History?

What was Nikon thinking? With the price of the Nikon D3x that is. In this review at Luminous Landscape, Reichmann sees Nikon being conscience of its place in history, the camera not necessarily designed to sell he suggests but a stone in Nikon’s path of photographic history. That’s probably about right, though as devil’s advocate, this seems like a high enough price to signify its importance to the designed market, and also to create the space needed for a Nikon 700x’s future pricing. I’ve said this before I think, but there’s no way the Nikon D700x comes in under $3000, and by the way if the Nikon D3x shoots 14 bit RAW at 1.8 FPS, what would the Nikon D700x shoot 14bit at?

But I digress, price aside, I think Reichmann likes the D3x, thought the man owns so many cameras, I suspect he’s run out of gear lust a long time ago.  For his take on the D3x, Nikon history, and just a bit about the whens and how much’s of a Nikon D700x go here.
