Nikon D300s ISO Samples

We’ve recently received our review sample of the Nikon D300s, the follow up to the incredibly well regarded Nikon D300. The D300s features a 7 fps continuous shooting speed, dual memory card slots (CF and SD), 720p HD video (with microphone jack), and adds a dedicated Live View button on the back, along with bringing over the multi-selector from the D3/D700. The sensor remains the same, a 12.3 megapixel offering that is now featured in the Nikon D5000 and Nikon D90. As such, ISO performance is very much in line with those two cameras.

I’ll have some initial analysis up soon, but I can say that 7 fps is a “wow” moment, and that 51 AF points may seem like overkill, but it sure is nice to move your focus point nearly anywhere on your composition and have an AF point be there. It can certainly negate a good deal of  “focus and recompose”, and both aspects, frame rate and AF, are substantially different than life with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Build quality is very high, this is one well made camera.

ISO Samples

We’re using the Nikon D300s with the AF-S Nikkor 16-85mm 1:3.5-5.6G ED lens. All shots taken at 34mm using f/8. Noise reduction is turned off. Click on the thumbnails to see the 100% crop.
