Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 G Review: Sharp Pictures for $199
The Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 G offers DX Nikon owners the chance to take part in the joys of the 50mm focal length (via crop factor), in a fixed focal length lens, for an affordable price. Photozone.de is one of the first to write up a review for the latest Nikkor lens, and in tests the 35mm f/1.8 has a bit more distortion and vignetting than your higher quality prime, but on the resolution front:
The lens delivers excellent resolution figures in the center throughout the whole tested aperture range, the borders follow closely behind with very good values wide open to f/2.8 and excellent resolution at f/4 and f/5.6.
The extreme borders are visibly softer wide open and reach only good values, however stopping down helps to increase the resolution here. The peak is reached at f/2.8 already with slightly lower, but still very good values down to f/8.
-Photozone.de
Bokeh is pleasing enough, but CA (chromatic aberration) is a bit of problem. So great optics, with a couple of correctable flaws. And again, are you really complaining when the Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 G costs $199?(!)
Prediction: Nikon sells these like hotcakes.
