Morning Roundup: Pick your Sony Alpha rumor (A300?, A500?, A900?), Compact flash gets bigger, and more
With the release of the Sony Alpha 200, the madness that is the Sony DSLR forums at DPR has turned their attention back to the next potential Alpha release, which forum consensus seems to think would be the A300. This theoretical camera body would in essence be an A200 plus, since part of the basis of this rumor is a crazy picture (left) of a tilted flip-out lcd screen, which one assumes would feature live view (A side note: neutralday now runs Lightbox, simply click on pictures for an enlarged view overlay). Then there are rumors of an A500, a camera body in between the A200 and the A700 which would presumably be a 12mp camera borrowing more from the a700 and less from the A100, all stuffed into a camera body roughly the size of an A200. Finally, rumors of an A900 to be announced at the 2008 PMA show, which if I had to guess would be full frame 16mp camera body, ridiculous AF performance, very high ISO performance, shooting at 10 FPS, with price points to compete more along the lines of Canon 5d replacement. Also to me, the A900 seems the best bet for a Sony Alpha announcement at PMA. They have their midrange and now they have their entry level, it doesn’t make sense to introduce a slightly better entry level camera body featuring live view now, when even the A700 doesn’t have live view (which also didn’t make sense). No, if I was going just on logic and the subtle hinting some bigger sites are offering, then I’d expect an A900 just 23 days from now.
Moving on real quick to the news this morning, I see that Pretec has announced some ridiculously sized compact flash cards. Weighing in at 16, 24, and 48 Gb (!), They’ll clock in at 333x, and 233x (for the 48gb). If you’re shooting with the Canon 1Ds Mark III, you’ll be needing these.
Terry White has a write-up on the new Cintiq 12WX that Wacom was kind enough to let him borrow (Note to Wacom: We also like to borrow things here at Neutralday). Result: He loves it.
Finally, more on the inspirational side of things, Scott Kelby posted a link to photographer Elizabeth Carmel, whom I found not to long ago “stumbling”. If you love landscape photography, then you’ll want to see her work.
