The aforementioned codiac2600 (pentaxforums.com member and previously under NDA) has posted his very thorough analysis of what’s great and not so great about the K20D…
The image quality is stunning and it will put a lot of higher end cameras to shame especially if you have good glass. After peeping dozens of images from the K20D in beta firmware fashion it’s hard to deny the stunning quality of these images and it will blow many reviewers and photographers away. Ben Kanarek, Canon’s fashion photographer of the year 2006, has even exclaimed that the image quality is rivaling that of Hasselblads, which is a very bold statement, but with a lot of images backing his statement it’s hard to deny.
Judging by the early looks and specifications release, it appears Pentax has gone all out to competing with Canon and Nikon in the image quality department. In addition they’ve loaded the K20D with pro type features, improved the build quality, and improved just about everything in the K10D, with one big exception, the AF system. At $1300, Pentax has a good shot at increasing some market share, especially considering consumers weakness for megapixels. I would bet the average customer won’t be thinking about AF when presented with 14.6 megapixels…
