K20D sample picture

It was just a matter of time, but today the first pictures from the K20D have surfaced on the internet. The pictures were posted in pentaxforums.com by user Matjazz. Click to enlarge the thumbnail. Of course the pictures are presumably taken with Beta firmware, so there’s room for improvement, also of note—forum based rumors of a 16:9 format appear to have been dashed, it’s not apparent in any of these shots…

Possible K200D

A closer look at this shot shows a man with a unidentified Pentax around the neck…Best guess is this is the K200D out in the wild…Some of the shots feature some very high ISO shots—ISO 6400, there’s some noise there for sure, but again this is beta firmware. More here. In addition, it would appear by the pictures that Pentax did more than just rent out a conference room at the Dubai Holiday Inn. The journalists are driving around in 4×4’s, and sipping tea, sandboarding, camel back riding, and shooting the latest Pentax cameras. Not a bad days work.

Pretty impressive picture quality for beta firmware, especially if some of these high ISO shots are real— but not a hint of a K20D in any of the pictures, least none that I can see. In the forums, some are pointing out the K10D had some photos leaked pre-announcement with some ISO noise issues that were later fixed when firmware was finalized upon the camera’s actual release.(Note: You may have to wait for this page to load before clicking on the images to see them larger)
