Canon PowerShot SX200 IS Video Sample
Part of the inherent popularity of a “pocket zoom” camera like the Canon SX200 IS is that it does a little bit of everything. It takes pretty good pictures, has a versatile 12x zoom lens, and also shoots a little bit of video on the side, all in a (near) pocket-sized form factor. In the case of the SX200 IS, video is of the 720p variety (1280×720 @30 fps) and the video quality is quite good too, provided you can accept:
- mono sound only
- no optical zoom while filming (though digital zoom is possible)
- battery life diminishes substantially
Given that, you can expect to bring useful video home with the SX200 IS. Below we’ve include a sample to give you an idea of what the SX200 IS is capable of. I recommend clicking through to the Vimeo site to view the larger version for a more accurate experience.

I’m hoping to get some more image samples up after the weekend, with a full review of the Canon PowerShot SX200 IS coming soon.
In addition we’ve got more exciting stuff coming, more software reviews, we’ll start testing Nikon’s D90 and their new 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX lens along with it, and even more good stuff after that. So keep checking in for updates, with additional field notes on twitter.

Nice video sample for the Canon SX200 IS.
How did you get the video so smoothly?
My video that I played on Quicktime comes out jerky even when it was shot from a tripod.
Do you mean playback is “skippy” or there’s actual physical movement of the camera? I did use a tripod for some of the footage, but I did get some jumpiness when looking at the original files. I think the conversion (via imovie to upload to vimeo) helps smooth things out.
Hey,
I bought this camera earlier this year in the hope of putting videos onto YouTube.
However, when i load them into my video editing software – Roxio Creator 2009- the audio is fine, put the actual image is jumpy and slow? It is the same in windows player as well.
Do you know how this can be fixed?
