Canon SX200 IS ISO Samples
I’m thinking I’ll delay our Canon SX200 IS review a couple of days till the Pentax news settles a little, in the meantime though I’m posting the results of our ISO test. It goes without saying that this camera isn’t intended for frequent low light use, it is after all, just a compact camera. Still you can get an idea of what this versatile camera is capable of in terms of overall image quality and its acceptable ISO range. You’ll note that likely due to sensor size and noise reduction, that the SX200 IS (and in general most compacts) won’t resolve very fine details in this texture torture test, and that at ISO levels over 400, noise algorithms start to take their toll on any remaining detail. On the other hand if used as intended, ISO 100 and 200 (and it’s base ISO of 80 which I haven’t shown here) will produce fine larger prints, and higher ISO levels would make perfectly acceptable smaller size prints and be more than adequate for screen use.
