Canon PowerShot SX200 IS Sample Image Gallery

We’ve posted a big part of our Canon PowerShot SX200 IS image gallery below. I’ve spent nearly a week shooting almost entirely with the SX200 IS and for the most part have been pleased with the results. The SX200 IS is more than capable of taking vivid pictures that can have high levels of detail provided you:

  • Have plenty of light
  • keep ISO low (may require switching to program mode)

In other words, for best results you’ll want to avoid shooting anything higher than ISO 200 for optimal results, though in well lit scenarios you could higher than this and retain respectable image quality. In everyday use though, the SX200 IS takes very good pictures, and I’ve pulled any number of processed photographs from the printer at A4 size with a big smile on my face.

That said you will on occasion find the SX200 IS (like many compacts) struggles to fully resolve certain details, in particular foliage type detail like grass, leaves, and similar subjects, likely due to sensor size and noise algorithms. The lens is mostly free from glaring flaws, with chromatic aberration and light fall off well controlled, and a fairly normal amount of wide angle distortion. High contrast scenes will cause the SX200 IS to blow highlights, I struggled to expose the waterfalls…even when using exposure compensation in shutter priority mode. Also, frequently the SX200 IS has a tendency to push saturation too much in certain “My Color” options, obliterating details in more colorful subjects, flowers for instance. Shooting in the “Neutral” setting did help to control this, and for the most part, the images below have been photographed in the “Neutral” setting.
