Canon PowerShot SD880IS Review: We Like It
The well regarded (good reviews keep piling on) Canon PowerShot SD880IS scores 2 nice reviews today. We use one at work now, and I like it quite a bit. It has a great classy look, a brilliant LCD, and image stabilization that really works well. Print quality has been great on the medium sized prints that I’ve pulled and on screen of course, the photos have looked great. So it isn’t really a surprise to see in 2 reviews today, that the Canon PowerShot SD880IS gets still more high praise. At Photography Blog:
Better still, it’s actually a really usable camera. While retaining the advanced functions found on Canon compacts – such as AFL, AEL, FEL, one-touch white balance and spot metering – the new IXUS adds features like i-Contrast, Servo AF and a Face Self-timer, each of which may come in handy in certain situations. The only functions I missed were a live histogram, manual exposure control and perhaps manual focus – all of which are reserved for the flagship of the Digital IXUS line, the 980 IS
and at TrustedReviews:
You can usually rely on Canon cameras to produce very good picture quality, and the 870 IS is no exception. The level of detail is superb for a 10MP camera, and the relatively low compression at the highest quality setting ensures that none of it is lost. The lens also performs superbly, with excellent centre sharpness and only a tiny amount of blurring and chromatic aberration in the corners of the frame. Wide-angle barrel distortion is kept to an absolute minimum, but this is most likely aided by distortion correction during processing.
Great looks, nice build, and excellent pictures. In short, we like it.
The Canon SD880 is available here at Amazon and here from B and H Photo Video. (Currently $254 at Amazon which is $46 off the list.)
