Canon PowerShot G10 Review: Potential for Great Pictures, But…
Seemingly the defacto first choice for serious photographers desiring a high powered “compact” camera, the Canon PowerShot G10 offers 14.7 megapixels of sensor resolution, a 5x zoom with 28mm on the wide side of things, and a 461k resolution LCD display. While we’ve railed against the logic of increasing the amount of megapixels on the tiny sensors that are used on cameras like the G10, because of the complications that it creates when it comes to concerns that serious photographers would have, namely noise at higher ISO, the G10 still takes very good pictures provided the ISO is kept low. From Let’s Go Digital’s review:
The Canon PowerShot G10 performs superbly at low ISO values and if you know how to use this setting optimally in all circumstances, you will find this camera to be an excellent tool. In this way, you can extract the optimal potential quality of the camera.

Mind you this potential for great pictures is loaded with caveats, at least in this review—which you can grab here.

but still many people as well as me don’t see much difference between it and the G9
That’s been the rub, but hasn’t stopped a good many from upgrading anyway I suspect
