(Updated) Canon G10 Announced: 14.7 megapixels,28-140mm, 5x zoom

by Patrick on August 26, 2008

I guess I don’t have to wait till photokina! via Popphoto.com

key upgrades and features of the G10 include:

–True 5x zoom wide angle lens (28-140mm equivalent.)

–Face Detection can recognize profiles.

–14.7 megapixel capture

–RAW format files editable in Canon Digital Photo Pro (instead of ZoomBrowser/Imagebrowser like the G9)

–ISO up to 1600 with binned pixels lo-rez 3200 scene setting

–ISO dial now wraps around mode dial. -Exposure Comp has own dial to left of the hotshoe (where the ISO dial was on the G9.)

Oddly, no one else has released this yet. It’s quite possible that Canon has jumped the gun on this announcement.

Woohoo! I was waiting for this. What was the source and when does the camera hit the shelves?

After some research, found the release - apparently the G10 hits the shelves in October.

Just received a G9 upgrade from my G7, but it sounds like the G10 is worth waiting for. Any word on whether the noise will be reduced at higher ISOs ?

It’s odd, other than than this one source (obviously legit) I haven’t seen anything else about the G10, though I suspect with digic IV, noise management will be improved.
