Canon EOS Rebel XS: Super Affordable and Super Popular.
A competent DSLR camera for under $500. Yes, it’s possible just look at the Canon EOS Rebel XS. Offering 10 megapixels, 3 frames per second continuous shooting, and Live View, the XS isn’t just affordable, but also appears to be wildly popular. Sure, a big part of this price–but the XS is also pretty well regarded from a reviewer’s perspective. From the folks at DPReview.com:
Having helped create the ‘affordable’ DSLR, Canon has taken a while to respond to the latest, comparatively wallet-friendly offerings from the likes of Nikon and Sony. The 1000D is a pretty convincing response – it does just about everything it needs to do, and everything it does, it does well. It can produce great images at any of its ISO settings and, viewed as a whole, makes a great first DSLR.

Alright, that sounds good, but the best part of the XS (1000D), it’s $450 with the 18-55mm IS Kit lens and shipping for free at B&H Photo. So if you’re looking for your first DSLR camera and can’t afford the excellent Pentax K-x, it’d be hard to resist the super affordable, and quite good, Canon EOS Rebel XS.

The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a really nice camera.
It’s interesting when you take a look at the Amazon bestsellers list to see quite how many Canon cameras make it into the top five list of bestselling slr cameras (I posted a list here – http://www.photofreddie.com/how-to-pick-the-perfect-digital-camera-the-easy-way-in-under-30-minutes-part-1-of-3/)
It is also quite a reasonable price (which obviously helps). But I have also read some nice reviews about the image quality it delivers.
