Canon EOS 5D Mark II vs Sony A900: Can’t Pick the Winner.

Reichmann at Luminous Landscape compares the 2 “budget” high resolution full frame offerings from Canon and Sony. We’ve gone over this before, but it’s very hard to pick “winners” with these 2 amazing cameras, each offering a certain something to photographers. I’ve decided to go with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, but others might like the more serious nature of the A900, might require the additional megapixels, and may never shoot beyond ISO 800. The state of digital cameras today is such that it is much harder to make a poor choice amongst the camera brands. All of them are making great cameras, figure out what you do and what you want to do, and pick the best fit. That said, a taste from Luminous’ comparison:

Both the Canon 5D MKII and Sony A900 offer tremendous value for the money compared to everything that’s come before and just about everything else currently on the market. Yes, they’re as much as $1,500 to $2,000 more than various consumer cameras, but the extra money buys you a full-frame sensor camera with as much as twice the resolution. They’re also many thousands of dollars less than their only other competitors in terms of IQ, sensor size, and resolution, the Canon 1Ds MKIII and Nikon D3x.
