Canon EOS 5D Mark II Review: Some of the best IQ seen in a DSLR…

Yes, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II has been thoroughly hyped, and here at Neutralday we’re doing our part. Honestly, the camera does take incredible picures, and ISO performance is stunning, about the same as a Nikon D700, but with almost twice the megapixels. Oh, then there’s that HD video thing. So, is it overhyped? In a review at PDN Gear Guide, it seems like the answer is no. On that low light ability:

Conversely, the 5D II is, for the most part, a stunner in low light, offering very clean images from up to ISO 6400(!), topping its stablemate, the 50D, along with a host of recent DSLRs. Though it’s about on par with the Nikon D700, the 5D Mark II has almost twice the resolution of that camera and the size of its individual pixels are smaller, 6.4 microns compared to 8.4 microns for the D700. Quite clearly something, probably the new DIGIC 4 image processor, is working overtime to keep the noise down on the 5D Mark II’s images.

They’re quick to point out the caveats, which of course include that aging AF system, but for the most part the 5D2 is an amazing value.

Get the Canon EOS 5D Mark II at Amazon body only $2700 (Order from Amazon, not 3rd party), Adorama body only $2699, or from B and H for $2699.95.
