Canon Discusses Megapixel Count on G11
Amateur Photographer inquired with Canon why the change of heart on megapixels on the professional grade Powershot G11:
David Parry, from Canon UK’s Product Intelligence Team, told us: ‘The pixel count reduction of the sensor is a key part of the Dual Anti-Noise System. Reducing the number of pixels on a sensor of the same surface area allows the individual pixels to be larger and capture more light.

They go on to explain that for the G10, customers wanted more resolution, so more megapixels, but now apparently they want better low light performance, so less megapixels. I’m just thinking…these G series customers are so fickle.
