Blackrapid R-Strap Review

I hadn’t heard of this before, but I noticed the R-Strap on Kelby’s Gonzo Holiday List, and coincidentally, Brendan at Imaging Insider had a review of the R-Strap up at about the same time. The magic of the R-Strap is that it attaches to the tripod mount, which conviently puts the camera out of the way at the hip, but at the same time easy to access by simply swinging the camera up to eye level. This means the R-Strap would be ideal for shooters with 2 cameras, one on the monopod and one on the strap (watch the Blackrapid’s video for a demonstration).

For the average shooter it keeps the camera at your hip, ready to draw at moments notice. In addition it is a nicely padded main shoulder pad that makes it comfortable to have your average camera and lens combo on all day, with a “pro-size” and a F2.8 tell zoom a few hours are max for me at least, but more only because I don’t switch shoulders anymore with this camera strap (stays on my left shoulder, camera at right hip.) This strap doubles (rather unintentionally) as a security strap, making it harder for a grab and go thief to take your camera.

The Blackrapid RS1 strap is only $44 at Amazon. Which ain’t too bad, but they also have an RS2 version that has compartments for cellphones, memory cards etc. for only $56. Pretty cool.
