Full Frame Shootout: Image Quality Comparison

by Patrick on December 29, 2008

While we’ve said this for awhile and commenters generally agree, any of the full frame cameras will serve you very well, delivering excellent performance and image quality. But if you’re still unconvinced, Luminous Landscape servers up an excellent comparison of the big 3; the Sony A900, the Canon 5D Mark II, and the Nikon D3x. [...]

Michael Reichmann at Luminous Landscape posts his update to the Sony A900, and it’s an interesting read in part because in the article the A900:

doesn’t have Live View (and Reichmann misses it)
doesn’t match the 5D Mark II or D3x in ISO performance over 800.
doesn’t have the lens library that Canon or Nikon does.

but

Sony Cybershot DSC-T77 Review: Fun to Shoot With

by Patrick on December 19, 2008

Certainly one of the best looking compacts, you’ll remember that the Sony Cybershot DSC-T77 features a 10 megapixel sensor, 4x zoom, and 3 inch touch screen. It is almost identical to the Sony Cybershot DSC-T700, minus the 4GB of internal storage, a smaller (though still large) LCD screen, and most significantly it costs about $100 [...]

Photographer Chris Nze has an incredibly strong Flickr. The above is a look (palladium) that I find myself frequently trying to duplicate in Silver Efex. I just love it.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II vs Nikon D700: ISO Comparison

by Patrick on December 18, 2008

Eric at Photography Bay has posted a real nice ISO comparison between the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Nikon D700. It’s pretty clear to me that the Nikon D700 is better at higher ISO with less noise and better looking noise than the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. That said, both cameras can [...]
